Hi, I’m Maeve.
I’m currently a senior at Iowa State University studying Technical Communication, Communication Studies, and French. Throughout high school, I was heavily involved in FIRST robotics, marching band, concert band, French club, and musical theater. I’ve decided to continue my dedication to extracurriculars and academics in college.
Extracurriculars
My first year at Iowa State, I was the Executive Hall Secretary for the Wallace-Wilson Hall Council, and I was the Outreach Executive and Fundraising Executive for the ISU Robotics Club during their 2017 season. By the end of my freshman year, I had started my own student organization titled Students for Open Discussion to address the need for open and respectful dialogue about difficult topics in our current politics. I am currently the Technical Writer Officer for Students for Open Discussion. Additionally, I am President of Iowa State’s Society for Technical Communication to further my learning and exposure to the discipline of technical communication. During my final year at Iowa State, I am a volunteer for our Office of Admissions as a Student Admissions Representative directing tours, information sessions, and more for incoming students.
Academics
In addition to my extracurricular involvement, I’m devoted to my studies. Continuing my love for technology in my Technical Communication classes, I’m also exploring my interest in the theory and practice of rhetoric with my Communication Studies classes. I’ve also continued in my love for all things French by completing a French minor. During my four years at Iowa State, I have received multiple scholarships and awards for my academic excellence including the Ellen M. Walvoord scholarship for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Lastly, I will graduate with Honors from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Professional Experience
In my profession, I currently work at Workiva as a Client Onboarding Intern where I pay close attention to detail, work closely with customers, and develop instruction guides for my department. I am also an Undergraduate Research Assistant for the Family Health Communication Lab where I have published research in highly regarded academic journals.
In the past, I’ve worked as a Peer Wellness Educator and was recently promoted to Student Coordinator through the Iowa State Student Wellness Center where I strive to assist my fellow peers in balancing the eight spheres of individual wellness while heavily advocating for mental health awareness. Additionally, I was a Peer Mentor Success Coach for a large lecture first-year learning community titled “HOME”. This was a promotion from the Undergraduate Assistant title I held for nearly one year. I offered critical thinking, opposing viewpoints, and additional commentary to enhance the planning and organization of the “HOME” learning community.
Future Goals
In my near future, I hope to hold a full-time employment position or internship in corporate communications, human resources, UX writing, management, or similar fields. I have a wide base of experience and knowledge that I am eager to apply to my next adventure!
